Carnival and Princess announced this week that they signeed an agreement to build two new 3800 Plus passenger ships to come on line 2012 and 2013.  This is important because they are the first contracts to be signed since the Oasis has been out on the water and public reaction to some degree has been measured.   In my opinion the Oasis lives up to all the hype that was generated about it.  The biggest complaint I have seen is that getting a reservation at the specialty restuarants during your cruise is difficult.  Nice problem for RCL to have.

I take this as a combined sign of confidence in the market to sustain these new ships in additon to the 11 others coming in 2010, and that they are in the mega category, an affirmation of a trend I have been claiming, ie that the ships are beoming as much the destination as ports of call, and that the newer more efficient and yes greener ships will have an impact.  Even if Princess removes two older ships when these launch the overall effect will be more capacity at more efficient costs.

Sounds great to me.
