Facebook and travel

We all love FB and its great to share memories, photos and stay in touch with family and friends, but beware of an increasing rate of Scams and burglaries that are occuring because we are putting too much on FB especially about travel.

Its great to share your travel experiences but two things are beginning to be seen when people post their travel plans and or indicate they are on travel on FB.

First burglars may monitor FB pages so make sure your "friends" are really your friends!  Post your travel experiences after you get back as opposed to an online commentary that indicates your home may be vacant.

Second is a scam where hackers have hacked into FB accounts and send you a message while travelling that they have had a problem or a travel problem and are now stuck without a passport or tickets to return, and could you wire them some emergency funds to help, you being a friend and all!  This one is really making the circuit, so be able to contact your friends you would consider doing this for with another means than FB back and forth, like a phonecall.

Have a great vacation, but don't advertise it before hand too much on Facebook or similar sites.
